westlaw Canada introduces new collection to help lawyers build winning litigation strategies quickly and efficiently

Thomson Reuters has launched Causes of Action, Defences and Remedies in Canada, a new collection of more than 80 custom articles on westlaw® Canada written exclusively for Thomson Reuters by Ted Tjaden, a highly respected Canadian research and knowledge management lawyer.  "In creating Causes of Action, Defences and Remedies in Canada, my goal is to provide everything a litigator needs to plead a claim or defence, including model pleading and factum language and the leading cases for all of the major contract, tort, and equitable claims and defences," said Ted Tjaden.

The articles uniquely pull together all of the critical information a litigator would need around specific tort and contractual causes of action. As well, the collection contains articles that focus specifically on the requirements for preparing particular pleadings, including statements of claim, statements of defence, third-party claims, replies, and facta.

"For every claim or defence, links to relevant legislation (including rules of court) are provided, along with commentary and jurisprudence concerning burdens of proof, limitation periods, related remedies, summary judgment jurisprudence, costs, checklists, and model examination for discovery questions," said Ted Tjaden. "Each article also provides a comprehensive listing of relevant research references for the particular cause of action, defence or remedy, including relevant books and law journal articles … the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest, the westlaw Canada Legal Memoranda database, and the Canadian Abridgment."

Cause of Action, Defences and Remedies is one of two new additions forming the new Strategic Litigation Collection and helping make westlaw Litigation Solutions more complete than ever.  "This fall we will launch the Proof of Facts Articles Collection, which will allow legal professionals to quickly and efficiently focus research to expedite trial preparation," says Maria Cooley, General Manager of Thomson Reuters Canada.  "Along with our classic service, Litigator, these two invaluable new services will support our customers’ strategic decisions, automate their most tedious tasks, and equip them to manage the litigation process easily and accurately."
